Flea Market Cruelty
Flea markets have started to earn a reputation for being a puppy peddler's best friend. In Georgia, there are numerous weekend flea markets that are allowing unmonitored live animal sales, with little to no concern for the animals being subjected to the heat, cold, or other substandard conditions they are forced to endure.
L&D Farm & Kennel, located in Nicholson, Ga., is only one of many Georgia Department of Agriculture licensed Pet Dealers that are licensed to sell at flea markets in Georgia. Most of these flea market venues are held over the weekend when the state regulatory Department of Agriculture inspectors are not working. So it's pretty much a free for all for the hundreds of puppy peddlers across the state.
People love a bargain - be it wardrobe, vehicles or even pets. The puppy peddlers play off on this, as well as count on the average consumer to oooh and ahhhh at their cute little puppies until they decide to give up the 200 dollars for a, supposedly, pure breed.
This type of mentality is also used by pet store owners. They also know that the average, uneducated consumer isn't going to be able to say 'no' to a cute and cuddly puppy or kitten.
What the average consumer needs to understand is just where all of these puppies, flea market or pet store, really come from.
